History of Dogs – Revealing the Relation Between a Wolf And a Dog

The dogs are supposed to be the man’s best friend at home. So, it’s natural that he will be curious behind the history of his best friend’s originality.

Most of the biologists believe that probably all the dogs have descended from an animal named Tomarctus, who lived about 15 million years ago. With the ages, different breeds of dogs came into the world. However, the oldest known breed is the Saluki hunting dogs, which were used by the Egyptians. Many more breeds, claim to be the first real dog on Earth. Whatever the case exactly be, a recent study using mitochondrial DNA, suggests that the dogs and the wolves splitted into different species a million year ago. It is now probably accepted by most of the biologists that the dogs are definitely the descendants of the grey wolf.

The comparison regarding the skeletons and osseous system of them can really show the identity in the structure of these two beasts. Some of the real similarities between a wolf and a dog are shown below, which ensures that the history of dogS is very much connected to a wolf.

  • Both the wolf and the dog have thirteen pair of ribs in their body, in which nine are true and four are false. Moreover, both of them have forty two teeth, five front toes and four hind toes. It is quite hard to find any dissimilarity between the appearances of both of them.

  • The period of growth in both the species is found to be sixty – three days. It is interesting to notice that there are about six to nine cubs in a wolf’s family, and all of them are supposed to be blind for 21 days.

The similarity between the Indian dogs and the North American wolves is so closer that only the strength of the wolves looks to be the difference. Moreover, just the barking and howling cannot be considered as a difference, where we can say that the history of dogs is no where connected to a wolf. The aforesaid resemblance makes it clear that these two species have a past relation.
